About Conor Treacy

I am Conor Treacy, a WordPress and WooCommerce developer with a long background in SEO, based in Omaha, Nebraska. I write PHP for a living, have worked with websites since the mid-1990s, and have used WordPress since 2003.

What I do now

Most of my client work runs through Big Red SEO, the company I run with my wife Kimberly. She handles design, project management, billing, etc. I handle the custom development and much of the SEO work, including technical audits, strategy, recommendations, and the problems that sit between search, WordPress, and the underlying site infrastructure.

  • Custom WooCommerce development, especially checkout, shipping, and order data
  • WordPress plugin conflicts and difficult-to-reproduce bugs
  • Inherited sites where the original developer is gone
  • Migrations that have to preserve redirects, indexed URLs, and rankings
  • Performance work that starts at the server and ends at the theme
  • Technical SEO, finding issues with crawling, indexing, structured data, redirects, and WordPress itself

I publish the plugins I can publish. They are on GitHub, free and GPL licensed, and documented here on this site. Most client work sits under NDA, which is the honest reason there is no conventional portfolio page.

Hands-On Web Hosting

From February 1999 through December 2013 I operated Hands-On Web Hosting, where I was a partner and CEO. The company was sold at the start of 2014. By the end, the operation ran more than 400 server environments across the USA and England.

That history still matters to the work I do today. When a WordPress problem is actually a PHP limit, a web-server rule, DNS, mail delivery, storage, or something else below WordPress, I have spent enough years on the infrastructure side to know where to look.

Before WordPress

I am originally from Ireland and previously lived in both Southern and Northern California. Before the web became the center of my work, I was involved with bulletin board systems in Southern California. I had operated one of the largest message board BBS’s in Southern California and was a certified FIDO network hub. I moved into HTML and web development in the mid-1990s and have worked with WordPress since its first year.

Outside work

Cigars, whiskey, golf and wine, in roughly that order. I would like to kayak the Missouri River end to end and sail across the Atlantic. The travel and adventure material lives at Roaming Shenanigans so this site can stay mostly about code.
