I’ve been working with search engines since the mid-1990s, before Google existed and before “SEO” became the common term for it. Back then, the names were AltaVista, Lycos, Yahoo, AOL, Ask Jeeves, Dogpile, and others, but the goal was much the same: build and structure a website so people could find it through search.
Search was a major part of how I grew Hands-on Web Hosting. Much of the company’s business came through the visibility I built for the site in search engines, and that experience became a significant part of my professional background.

I later began working alongside my wife, Kimberly, at Big Red SEO while I was still running the hosting company. After selling Hands-on Web Hosting in early 2014, I became more heavily involved with Big Red SEO.
Today, I handle much of the SEO work at Big Red SEO, including technical SEO audits, SEO strategy and recommendations, link building, crawling and indexing issues, redirects and migrations, structured data, Search Console, analytics, page performance, and the technical SEO issues that often come with WordPress and WooCommerce sites.
Kimberly and I share areas such as keyword research, content updates, and page optimization. She also handles most of the design work and plays a major role in overall project and SEO strategy.
Search continues to change, particularly with AI-driven search experiences, but I still view that work as part of SEO rather than as a separate collection of disciplines. The tools and terminology change; the underlying job is still helping search systems understand a website and helping the right people find it.
Most of my ongoing SEO work, resources, and client work live at Big Red SEO. This page is simply here to document the SEO side of my background and how it overlaps with the WordPress, WooCommerce, hosting, and development work I write about on this site.
